Functions of the brain

The brain is complex with multiple areas and pathways involved in cognitive processes. The diagram below explores some of the main brain areas associated with the cognitive functions we are focussing on in this competency.

 

 

The Parietal lobe is responsible for:
  • Senses and integrating sensations 
  • Knowing where things are in space 
  • Perception 
The Occipital lobe is responsible for:
  • Processing of visual information 
The Temporal lobe is responsible for:
  • Information retrieval 
  • Language comprehension 
  • Hearing 
The Frontal lobe is responsible for:
  • Decision making/reasoning 
  • Personality 
  • Emotions 
  • Language production 
  • Memory formation
