Absolute risks

The absolute risks are higher than average for stroke or TIA patients who have:

  • prior history of heart attacks, TIAs, previous strokes and peripheral vascular disease
  • diabetes
  • atrial fibrillation
  • carotid artery stenosis

Risks are generally lower

  • if no cause of stroke or TIA is identified
