Stroke Training and Awareness Resources (STARs)

Knowledge, skills and benefits

Knowledge

Following the early phase of stroke, many of its effects will lessen over the next weeks and months and sometimes even years. However, the rate and degree of recovery is difficult to predict.

Skills

To be able to respond to enquiries from people with stroke about their future in general terms and advise them to speak to their specialist for specific advice. Contact is not just a specific treatment intervention. Listening, supporting and observing changes in people with stroke are equally important for all staff.

Benefits to the individual

People with stroke will receive consistent advice about their likelihood of recovery.
