6: Level of consciousness

Introduction

This activity looks into the knowledge and skills required to enable health and social care staff to assess an individual’s level of consciousness, airway, breathing and circulation.

NB: Please refer to the Resuscitation Council UK and your local Health Board  for further guidance and resources.

Learning points:

  • Assess the individual’s airway, breathing and circulation and level of consciousness
  • Explain the action to take if the individual has a blocked airway
  • Explain the action to take if the individual is not breathing and/or has no pulse
