Knowledge

Stroke often causes weakness or clumsiness of the face, arm or leg on one side of the body. Individuals with a weak arm may be at risk of shoulder injury and should ensure the affected arm is supported. Individuals who experience leg weakness may be at increased risk of falls. Those with core muscle weakness may have difficulty maintaining sitting balance, and those with orofacial muscular weakness may struggle to speak or swallow effectively’.

To recognise when an individual is not moving one part of their body and how to manage this safely

Individuals will not be assumed to be able to do something of which they are incapable. They will be less likely to develop complications
