Congenital: Case 1: Jack
Jack’s Story
Meet Jack. His mother, a first time mum, gave birth to him two days ago, after an uneventful pregnancy and a normal delivery. Routine assessments of Jack were satisfactory and he and his mum were discharged home, into the care of the community midwives.
Additional Information
Newborns have an initial post-delivery screening examination conducted and the face, eyes, mouth, chest, abdomen, spine and limbs are checked to exclude major abnormalities. An APGAR score is also checked at delivery, two minutes after birth and five minutes after birth.
