Diagnosis

What do you think is Edith’s Diagnosis? Select one of the options below.

Q. What do you think is Edith’s Diagnosis?

Urgency Urinary IncontinenceTrue – urge urinary incontinence is ‘The complaint of involuntary leakage accompanied by or immediately preceded by urgency’. It is usually unpredictable and may involve release of a large quantity of urine in a gushing stream.

Stress Urinary IncontinenceFalse – this is not stress leakage. Stress urinary incontinence is predictable and controlled. The person anticipates when she will experience leakage. This is usually in small amounts. For example on coughing, laughing or sneezing.

Mixed Urinary Incontinence False – because Edith’s symptoms are urgency not symptoms of SUI e.g. leaking on coughing or laughing.

Urinary Retention problemsFalse – this is not retention because the results of the bladder scan suggest that Edith is effectively emptying her bladder.
