Having difficulties with communication can lead to:
- People feeling lonely and isolated especially if they are no longer able to socialise and participate in their hobbies because of their communication problems
- People feeling as though they don’t have control of their lives anymore as they find it difficult to express their wishes and needs
- Changes in relationship dynamics and roles if people are unable to return to their previous work roles or interact socially at the same level
- People feeling frustrated and low in mood due to all of the above. There is a high incidence of depression following stroke and it is common in people who have communication problems
