The following are measures which Sheetal could take to reduce her risk of stroke. Starting at Sheetal’s house select the crosses next to the locations below for more information.

Sheetal’s house – Sheetal returns home and is feeling overwhelmed with all the information she has been given. Signpost Sheetal to resources available to help support her including:

CHSS advice line nurse service is a free confidential telephone service providing support and information for people living with stroke: Tel 0808 801 8099

CHSS stroke information essential guides and factsheets available at: https://www.chss.org.uk/chss-publications-dvds-and-resources/all-chss-factsheets/

Self management resource Selfhelp4stroke available at: https://selfhelp4stroke.org/

Supermarket -Sheetal’s diet can play a part in reducing her risk. There are a number of issues she needs to consider:

  1. She’s overweight with type 2 diabetes
  2. She should aim for a weight loss of 10% which will help control her diabetes and her blood pressure. To do this she needs to have regular meals and snacks, cut down on fatty foods

Doctors surgery – Sheetal’s blood pressure needs to be monitored. A reasonable target for blood pressure would be systolic of less than 130mmHg. Her diabetes needs to be monitored so she will need to check her blood sugar more regularly.

Pharmacy – The pharmacist explains about some of the new medications that she will be taking, but because of her religious beliefs Sheetal has some questions about these.

  • Are there any animal products included?
  • What are the benefits of taking these?

Sports centre – Encourage to increase physical activity.

  • Participating in exercise will have overall benefits to Sheetal’s health.
  • Sheetal prefers walking rather than vigorous exercise.
