Quiz 3

Choose which of the following strategies you could use to assist Mrs Singh who has right-sided hemianopia:

Correct answers-

When considering issues of safety, e.g. outside walking, climbing stairs, you should be on the right side of Mrs Singh as she may not see things on her right side.

Encourage Mrs Singh to continually scan to her right side. By encouraging Mrs Singh to scan to her right side she will be able to see things which she would otherwise not see.
Wrong answers-
Give Mrs Singh an eye patch for her right eye. Hemianopia is the loss of half the visual field in both eyes and an eye patch would not help Mrs Singh. An eye patch may be used if an individual has double vision.
Encourage Mrs Singh to continually scan to her left side. Mrs Singh can see things normally on her left side. A right-sided hemianopia means she has lost the right side of her visual field in both eyes.
